Description

What kind of wine it is

Barolo Villero by Livia Fontana is a red wine that embodies the purity of Nebbiolo. With a bright red colour featuring ruby and garnet hues, it reveals a deep aromatic profile characterised by notes of violet and sweet spices, such as cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate, it expresses a bold character, where freshness merges with a great structure. The vigorous yet elegant tannin ensures impeccable balance, leading to a persistent and delicately balsamic finish, perfect when paired with flavourful meats or duck à l’orange.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the renowned Barolo area, within the prestigious Villero cru. The vineyards face south-west, at an altitude between 300 and 350 metres. The soil consists of Marne di Sant’Agata Fossili with sandy infiltrations, a geological composition that gives the wine a distinctive flavour profile and a precise tannic texture. This connection between land and altitude offers an authentic territorial expression and exceptional ageing potential, capable of evolving in the cellar for up to twenty years.

How it is produced

The grapes are hand-harvested in mid-October, followed by a rigorous selection on a vibrating table and gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, with frequent pumping over and délestage. After about twenty days of maceration, the wine undergoes a long maturation period, resting for between thirty and forty months in oak barrels, where it develops harmony and roundness. Ageing is completed in the cellar before release. A serving temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees is recommended.
