Description
Type of wine
Vitruviano Chianti from Cantine Leonardo da Vinci is a Tuscan red wine with a Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin (DOCG), obtained from a harmonious blend of Sangiovese and Merlot and aged in stainless steel to enhance the primary aromas of the grape varieties. On the nose, it offers an intense and persistent bouquet, with hints of cherry and redcurrant, enhanced by nuances of chocolate and a subtle note of black pepper. On the palate, it is distinguished by a soft and full structure, supported by balanced acidity and smooth tannins that make each sip fresh and enveloping. The finish is long and clean, ideal for accompanying pasta dishes with meat sauces, fresh cheeses and rich platters of cured meats.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the hills of Vinci and neighbouring municipalities in the Florentine area, grown at an altitude of between 40 and 130 metres above sea level. The distinctive character of this Chianti is linked to its Pliocene-origin soils, composed of alluvial deposits rich in fossil shells. This particular soil minerality gives the wine a remarkable taste persistence and an intense depth of colour. The region's favourable climate ensures optimal ripening of the grapes, while the management of Cantine Leonardo da Vinci enhances the authentic viticultural vocation of the territory.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place when the grapes are fully ripe, between late September and early October. The winemaking process involves maceration on the skins for about eight days, during which fermentation is conducted at a controlled temperature. The use of frequent pumping over and délestage promotes the extraction of anthocyanins, ensuring the wine has a vibrant colour and a pleasant aromatic depth. To preserve its freshness and the integrity of the fruit, the wine undergoes ageing in stainless steel until March, without any time spent in barrels.
History and facts
Born among the picturesque Tuscan hills, Chianti DOCG Vitruviano celebrates the perfect harmony between Renaissance heritage and viticultural tradition. Produced since 1961 by Cantine Leonardo da Vinci, this exclusive red wine is rooted in Pliocene soils rich in seashells, a characteristic that gives the wine intensity and persistence. The label, inspired by the Vitruvian Man, bears witness to a deep attention to detail, elevating the blend of Sangiovese and Merlot to an authentic tribute to Florentine oenological excellence.

The original headquarters, restructured and enlarged, are still the operative centre today. The winery is situated in the borough of Vinci, just 5 kilometres from the birthplace of the world famous artist and inventor Leonardo.
The co-operative takes its name from the great man, paying homage to the mind of the man who was universally recognised as a genius and to emphasise its deep-rooted bond with the territory, the same bond which Leonardo felt and whose surname is specifically associated with the village where he was born on 15 April 1452.
Today, Cantine Leonardo da Vinci is a pioneering co-operative, innovative and modern, which relies on the work and grape production of its 160 members. Read more
