Description
What kind of wine it is
Castelasc Rosso by La Spia is a still red wine with an immediate and smooth drinkability. It is born from a harmonious blend of Nebbiolo, Pignola Valtellinese and Rossola Nera, an authentic expression of the Alpi Retiche region. The sensory profile offers a pronounced aromatic fragrance, enriched by a solid structure and a light, velvety tannin. The tasting reveals remarkable pleasantness, ideal for accompanying bresaola carpaccio, young cheeses and traditional first courses.
Where it comes from
This red wine comes to life in the heart of Valtellina, from grapes grown in the municipalities of Mello, Berbenno and Chiuro. The rows stretch across picturesque mountain vineyards situated between 400 and 500 metres above sea level, benefiting from perfect southern exposure. This geographical position ensures consistent ripening, favouring the development of a well-defined flavour profile that combines structural clarity with great approachability on the palate.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a brief vinification in steel tanks, a technique aimed at preserving the original aromas of the fruit. Subsequently, the wine rests in barrels for a period ranging from eight to twelve months. This measured maturation in wood is essential for stabilising the colour and giving depth to the structure, rounding the tannins until they become soft and ensuring a harmonious evolution.
History and Curiosities
Castelasc Rosso by La Spia is a tribute to Valtellina, born from mountain vineyards where Nebbiolo displays exceptional elegance. Created by oenologist Emil Galimberti, this innovative label combines the freshness of stainless steel with careful ageing in semi-new barriques, giving the wine structure and velvety tannins. The modern choice of a screw cap ensures flawless bottle ageing, preserving the aromatic fragrance intact. An authentic expression of IGT Alpi Retiche that breaks the mould, designed for palates seeking experimentation.

In recent years, La Spia has changed its production rate from just under 5,000 to over 15,000 bottles produced. The company took over small, selected vineyards in neighbouring sub-zones, such as 'Grumello' and 'Valtellina Superiore' in the town of Berbenno. From these vineyards, the increasingly careful selection of Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) pushed the company to separate the different types of grapes. Read more
