Description

What kind of wine it is

Barbaresco from La Ca’ Nova is an elegant red wine from Piedmont, made from Nebbiolo grapes. In the glass, it displays a bright garnet colour with ruby highlights, releasing a refined bouquet of red cherry, rose petals, fine spices and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it stands out for its grace, with delicate tannins, lively freshness and a long mineral finish. Designed for ageing over decades, it pairs beautifully with roasts, braised meats, game and traditional tajarin with ragù.

Where it comes from

This expression of Barbaresco originates in Piedmont, among the vineyards tended by the La Ca Nova winery. The estate’s historical roots date back to the seventeenth century in Cella Monte, among the hills of Monferrato. The estate preserves the evocative Infernot, ancient underground cellars hand-carved into the Pietra da Cantoni. The unique marl-limestone composition of the soils defines the wine’s territorial character, giving it a taut and deeply flavoured profile.

How it is produced

The result of La Ca Nova’s work, this wine reflects the area’s deep winemaking vocation, as confirmed by the 91/100 score awarded by Vinous. To fully appreciate its complex structure, it is recommended to decant for one hour before tasting. It reaches its peak aromatic expression when served at a temperature of 16-18 °C, clearly revealing the elegant texture and nuances that distinguish it.

History and Curiosities

The roots of La Ca Nova date back to the 17th century in the heart of the village of Cella Monte, among the splendid hills of Monferrato. The estate carefully preserves the ancient Infernot, fascinating underground cellars entirely hand-carved in Pietra da Cantoni, a distinctive local limestone marl. This deep rural heritage is combined with expert winemaking craftsmanship to create wines of timeless charm. This exceptional Barbaresco DOCG 2022 received a score of 91/100 from Vinous.

From this winery
La Cà Nova is located in Cella Monte, a small village in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of the Monferrato hills. Its origins date back to the 17th century, and the spirit of Monferrato tradition is still very much alive here today. Our Farm and Winery also preserves an underground treasure: the Infernot.

The Infernot are small underground chambers entirely hand‑carved into the Pietra da Cantoni, a typical marl‑limestone sandstone that formed and settled beneath our hills millions of years ago.
