Description
What kind of wine it is
The Sauvignon Blanc from Kettmeir is a dry white wine with a pale straw yellow colour and greenish highlights, which precisely expresses the character of Alto Adige. Its sensory profile is distinguished by a fresh and lively style, a medium body and a well-balanced structure. The aromatic bouquet is intense, with notes of nettle, elderflower and apricot blending with exotic hints of passion fruit and grapefruit, enriched by nuances of blackcurrant, paprika and nutmeg. On the palate, it is harmonious, offering a pleasant and persistent sip that evolves into a long and elegant finish.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from mid-hill vineyards located between Caldaro and Salorno, overlooking the lake of the same name. Situated between 350 and 500 metres above sea level and cultivated using pergola and espalier systems, the vines benefit from a cool and breezy climate. The marked daily temperature variations in this area are essential for the development of pronounced aromatic intensity. The roots sink into loose, well-aerated clay-limestone soils, rich in stones and organic matter, ensuring optimal vegetative balance that enhances the authenticity of the terroir.
How it is produced
Between mid and late September, manual harvesting allows for the selection of the best bunches directly in the vineyard. In the winery, a brief cold maceration at 5-6 °C is carried out, a crucial stage for delicately extracting aromas from the skins. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15-16 °C. The period of maturation in steel is a key technical choice to preserve the varietal purity of the Sauvignon Blanc and maintain a dry and highly precise flavour profile.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1919, the historic winery Kettmeir combines ancient South Tyrolean tradition with oenological innovation. Under the expert guidance of Josef Romen, the esteemed Sauvignon Alto Adige DOC was born, produced from grapes grown on clay-limestone soils between the hills of Caldaro and Salorno. Thanks to the cool climate, marked temperature variations and gentle cold maceration, the fruits express a vibrant purity of the grape variety. Each bottle encapsulates the authentic essence of a unique terroir, offering the palate unforgettable elegance and freshness.

Tradition as a value to be handed down, and progress as a vision to be perpetuated. Innovators, but with the awareness that one must not abandon the heritage of tradition, preserved as a fundamental bond with the land and one's own history.
One example is the architecture of the Kettmeir winery, preserved intact since the Second World War as a precious testimony to its past. And it is in the historic wine cellar, where both the wines rest in barrels and the classic method sparkling wines on ancient pupitres, that part of Kettmeir's success is realised under the watchful eye of oenologist Josef Romen.
The other place is the vineyards, stretching from Kaltern to the Ebnicherhof to Salurn, where Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Moscato rosa and many other grape varieties grow, cultivated with absolute care, respecting all their varietal peculiarities. In every grape, the history of this land. In every drop, the know-how of its people. In every bubble, a way of being. Read more
