Description

Wine type

The Barrel Fermented Chardonnay produced by Jordan in Stellenbosch is a still white wine, with a Wine of Origin designation, which elegantly expresses the character of the South African terroir. This wine enhances Chardonnay through a full and dry style. On the palate, the creamy structure harmoniously balances rich tones with a vibrant acidity and a clear mineral vein. The bouquet opens with hints of citrus and ripe orange, enriched by notes of butter and vanilla. The finish reveals hints of sweet almond, hazelnut and a delicate toastiness, ensuring a deep and persistent aromatic profile.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the Stellenbosch Kloof gorge, South Africa. The vineyards sit on south- and east-facing slopes, at altitudes between 250 and 310 metres. Here, the marine influence and breezes from False Bay mitigate the temperatures, encouraging aromatic concentration in the skins. The land, characterised by Glenrosa and Hutton soils, is home to vines aged between twenty-five and forty years. The variety of locations and altitudes among the different plots gives the wine a distinct natural complexity.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with the harvesting of different clones to obtain varied textural components intended for the final blend. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, alongside a minimal proportion in steel used to preserve the vivacity of the fruit. This is followed by ageing sur lie in new and used barrels for a period of nine months. During this phase, the periodic stirring of the yeast in suspension enriches the volume of the sip, providing breadth and a perfect gustatory integration.

Served at 8-12°C, this South African Chardonnay enhances white meats and lean fish. Its soft buttery note harmoniously accompanies chicken in sauce and creamy risottos. Thanks to a fresh mineral acidity, it pairs perfectly with savoury dishes such as roast turbot, salt cod pil-pil or a flavoursome meat paella.
