Description
What kind of wine is it
Jermann Chardonnay is a still white wine with Indicazione Geografica Tipica Venezia Giulia, produced in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. In the glass, it appears a bright straw yellow with greenish highlights. The bouquet reveals notes of banana, ripe Golden apple and white flowers, while on the palate it offers a medium, balanced body with a pronounced savoury-mineral drive. The winemaking process involves fermentation in steel tanks and ageing on fine lees for about six months, resulting in a fruity and persistent finish.
Where does it come from
The grapes are grown in Dolegna del Collio, in the heart of the Venezia Giulia production area. The vineyards, facing south-west and north-east, take root in hilly soils of Eocene origin, composed of marl and sandstone. This distinctive rocky substrate, known as oceanic ponca, is fundamental for vine development. The combination of rich soil and the local microclimate shapes a recognisable savoury character and ensures a clear aromatic profile, fully enhancing the characteristics of Chardonnay grown on the hills.
How is it produced
The process begins with the harvest in early September and continues with white vinification. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks aims to preserve the fragrance of the varietal aromas. The subsequent ageing on fine lees lasts for about six months in the same containers, giving the wine greater structural consistency. The process concludes with a few months in the bottle, a stage that promotes its balance.
History and Curiosities
First produced in 1980, Jermann Chardonnay embodies the excellence of a historic winery founded in 1881 in Dolegna del Collio. This elegant white, awarded prestigious prizes by Gambero Rosso and Bibenda, shares the same innovative spirit that gave rise to the renowned Vintage Tunina. The modern Pechiney Stelvin screw cap perfectly preserves its aromatic freshness, ensuring an impeccable tasting experience every time. A true masterpiece from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, perfect to enjoy immediately.
