Description
What kind of wine it is
Marsannay Cuvée Saint Urbain is a still organic red wine with a typically Burgundian character. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, it reveals an elegant style and a harmonious flavour profile. Fermentation, carried out with indigenous yeasts and a portion of whole bunches, gives the sip great definition. On the palate, it is enveloping and balanced, displaying a refined structure that pairs beautifully with meat dishes, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in France, in Burgundy, in the commune of Marsannay-la-Côte, within the Côte-d'Or. The Marsannay area is part of the prestigious Côte de Nuits, a renowned wine-growing region. Jean Fournier is a family-run estate with a well-established presence in the area, dedicated to rigorous organic and sustainable viticulture. The careful approach in the vineyard aims to enhance the identity of the terroir, ensuring a distinctive imprint of evident finesse and balance.
How it is produced
Production begins with a manual harvest and a rigorous selection in the cellar. The grapes ferment spontaneously with a portion of whole bunches, accompanied by gentle punch-downs and pump-overs. Ageing takes place for twelve months in barrels, with limited use of new oak, followed by five months in stainless steel tanks, a decisive phase to harmonise the organoleptic profile before the end of the production process.
History and Curiosities
The historic Jean Fournier estate presents the Marsannay Cuvée Saint Urbain, a refined Pinot Noir that fully expresses the essence of Burgundy. Grown according to strict organic principles, the grapes are hand-harvested to ensure absolute quality. The meticulous vinification, carried out with indigenous yeasts and a portion of whole bunches, gives the wine a harmonious elegance. The skilful ageing in demi-muid and steel enriches its enveloping structure, making it the ideal companion to enhance fine cheeses and flavourful meat dishes.
