Description
What kind of wine it is
The Morgon Côte du Py by Jean Foillard elegantly interprets the Gamay grape variety. In the glass, it displays a vibrant ruby red colour and reveals an aromatic profile defined by notes of blackberry, liquorice and delicate balsamic hints. On the palate, it is fresh, deep and supported by a clear mineral and spicy character. Boasting excellent ageing potential, it expresses its nuances best if decanted for an hour and served at a temperature of 14-16 °C. It proves ideal for accompanying red meat main courses, pork-based dishes and characterful cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the slopes of the Côte du Py in Villié-Morgon, in the heart of Beaujolais. The old vines sink their roots into the highest point above the village, in an area characterised by granite and schist soil resting on an alluvial cone, which imparts a firm and complex structure to the wine. Since its foundation, the Jean Foillard winery has worked with a rigorous approach to faithfully translate the authentic mineral and savoury identity of the Morgon appellation into the glass, enhancing the purest expressions of the terroir.
How it is produced
Production follows a strict low-intervention philosophy at every stage of the process. The agronomic management excludes the use of herbicides and synthetic pesticides, fully protecting the ecosystem of the old vines. Following a late harvest, only the healthiest and most balanced bunches are selected by hand. In the winery, vinification proceeds without chaptalisation and with a total absence of filtration to preserve the natural essence of the fruit. This meticulous approach delivers an authentic sip, widely appreciated by the international wine critics.
