Description

What kind of wine it is

J. Hofstatter Oberkerschbaum Vigna Sauvignon Riserva is a still white wine from the prestigious Alto Adige region. Made exclusively from Sauvignon grapes, it appears a deep straw yellow with delicate greenish highlights. The bouquet offers clear aromas of ripe citrus fruits, grapefruit and bergamot, accompanied by elegant hints of flint and nettle. On the palate, it expresses a harmonious complexity, making it the ideal pairing for shellfish, fish dishes, cheeses and the spicy notes typical of Asian cuisine.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Alto Adige from a single plot near Pochi di Salorno. The vines are rooted in clay and calcareous gravel soils, at an altitude between 750 and 800 metres. This specific combination of soil and climate gives the wine a pronounced aromatic definition and a well-defined savoury texture. The Hofstatter winery manages its vineyards with careful agronomic practices that authentically enhance the identity of the mountain terroir.

How it is produced

After a gentle crushing, the must remains in contact with the skins for several hours to precisely extract the distinctive characteristics of the grape variety. This is followed by a soft pressing and subsequent fermentation at a controlled temperature. The wine matures through eight months of ageing on fine lees, accompanied by constant weekly batonnage. This meticulous technique integrates structure and aromas, giving the tasting experience an extremely linear and consistent progression.

History and Curiosities

Born from the historic Hofstatter winery, founded in 1907, the Oberkerschbaum Vigna Sauvignon Riserva expresses the identity of a single vineyard near Salorno. The grapes, grown between 750 and 800 metres on clay and calcareous gravel soils, benefit from careful agronomic practices. Under the guidance of Martin Foradori Hofstatter, the combination of maturation in wood, modern concrete tanks and advanced technology gives rise to a wine of great complexity, capable of enhancing the authentic and refined character of the variety.

The wisdom of generations. The drive to continuously create something new together. Our family winery’s story stretches back to the 19th century. Anticipating the future, just like Paolo Foradori. He once coins the term "Vigna" – marking the dawn of single-vineyard classification in Alto Adige. Pioneering spirit is deeply ingrained in our family heritage. Today, it is led by Martin and Beatrix Foradori Hofstätter, supported by the next generation: Niklas and Emma.

We uphold the highest standards every single day. In the vineyard, this means nurturing our vines through gentle pruning and the use of cover crops to enhance their strength. In the wine cellar, innovation meets tradition, as we age our wines in both classic wooden barrels and modern concrete vats. Cutting-edge cellar technology also plays an essential role in ensuring the quality of our wines.
