Description
What type of wine it is
Il Poggione's Brunello di Montalcino is a still red wine from Tuscany that expresses the essence of the denomination through the use of Sangiovese grapes. Characterised by a solid structure and a full body, it offers an enveloping sip, supported by velvety tannins and a vibrant freshness. The submerged cap fermentation conducted by indigenous yeasts ensures a harmonious aromatic and polyphenolic extraction. On the palate, it proves to be balanced, with a persistent finish featuring mineral and ferruginous hints, making it the ideal companion for red meat dishes, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The vineyards dedicated to this label are located on the western slope of the Montalcino hills in Tuscany. The grapes reach maturity in old vines over fifty years old, situated at an altitude between 150 and 450 metres, within an estate surrounded by dense woodland. The interaction between the hilly terrain and the local microclimate favours optimal vegetative development. This natural balance defines a distinctive aromatic profile, in which cherry notes and hints of red fruit blend with nuances of liquorice, dark tobacco and smoky sensations, offering a deep sip that is profoundly linked to its territory of origin.
How it is produced
Production begins with the manual harvest, during which the bunches are carefully selected. The must ferments at a controlled temperature in steel tanks, with a submerged cap maceration that allows for a calibrated extraction. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, the wine acquires complexity by ageing for about thirty months in large French oak barrels within underground cellars. This maturation period, followed by further rest in the bottle, consolidates its structure and bestows an extraordinary propensity for long ageing, presenting itself in the glass with an intense ruby red colour with garnet highlights.
