Description
What kind of wine it is
Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino is a Tuscan red wine with controlled and guaranteed designation of origin that expresses the essence of Sangiovese. In the glass, it appears garnet with ruby highlights, releasing aromas of Mediterranean scrub, juniper and blood orange. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied structure and a silky tannic texture, the result of spontaneous fermentation and long ageing in large oak barrels. The taste, fresh and savoury, finishes with a long balsamic persistence, making it ideal for red meats and game.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the hills of Montalcino, in the Sienese landscape. The vineyards are situated at four hundred metres above sea level, trained using the spurred cordon method. The area is characterised by marine sand soils rich in minerals, which impart a pronounced savouriness to the sip. The stable and dry climate ensures ideal ripening, with concentrated grapes that guarantee a clear aromatic profile and ripe tannins, while preserving the fruit's natural freshness.
How it is produced
Vinification follows a minimal intervention approach to enhance the integrity of the fruit. After destemming, the must undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, without temperature control, with regular pump-overs for gentle extraction. The skins are pressed vertically and the must completes the process naturally. Ageing continues for a long period in large oak barrels, allowing for elegant evolution. A prolonged final rest ensures balance, preserving the typical character of the region.

So 'playing with wine' becomes more than a game: it is a deep passion, a thread that guides Alessandro's choices. He decided, in the 1990s, to expand the wine cellar of Il Marroneto, realising an idea that eschews logic dictated by aesthetics tout-court but is firmly bound to those principles, in reality very simple and immediate, that the 'good practice' of making wine imposes.
