Description

What type of wine it is

Borrigiano from Il Borro is a lively and versatile organic red wine, born in the heart of Tuscany. This Toscana IGT is an elegant blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, an authentic expression of the territory. It presents as a wine with a fresh and smooth character, with a well-balanced structure and a pleasant acidic vein. Its polished and soft tannins give it a clean and welcoming finish, making it a young yet accomplished option.

Where it comes from

The grapes destined for Borrigiano grow in the prestigious vineyards of the Il Borro estate, located in Valdarno di Sopra, near San Giustino Valdarno in the province of Arezzo. This area of Tuscany is known for its winemaking tradition and for a terroir that confers floral and mineral notes to the wines. The estate operates entirely under an organic regime, respecting the environment and enhancing the authenticity of the territory through eco-sustainable practices.

How it is produced

The production of this wine begins with a manual harvest in crates. The vinification involves an initial cold fermentation of the must, which takes place in concrete tanks. This is followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Ageing takes place for a few months in large truncated conical oak barrels, a fundamental phase for softening the tannic texture, before resting briefly in steel prior to completing the journey with a period of ageing in the bottle.

History and curiosities

In 1993 Ferruccio Ferragamo became the owner of Il Borro Estate where, in previous years, he had hunted and vacationed with his family and friends. From that time on major work was undertaken in the medieval hamlet which was completely restored for the purpose of enhancing the history, traditions and natural surroundings, special attention was paid to the vineyards.

Today, the entire Estate is managed by two of his six children: Salvatore, CEO and Vittoria who is responsible for Il Borro’s Garden and special projects. Authenticity, respect for the environment, culture and enhancement of the local expertise are the pillars of the Estate’s sustainable philosophy which dominate each and every decision.
