Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Fossati by Icardi is an organic red wine that expresses the authenticity of the Nebbiolo grape in the glass. Characterised by a garnet ruby colour, it offers a defined aromatic profile where cherry and black cherry intertwine with notes of cocoa, eucalyptus and potpourri. On the palate, it reveals vitality and excellent structure, with pronounced tannins that accompany a spicy and enveloping finish. Perfect paired with red meats and mature cheeses, it is best enjoyed served at 18-20°C after being decanted for about an hour.
Where it comes from
This Piedmontese wine is born in the heart of the renowned Barolo denomination. The Icardi winery, founded in 1914 and led by oenologist Claudio Icardi, is based in Castiglione Tinella, in the province of Cuneo. The vineyards cover forty-eight hectares in a highly suitable winegrowing area, located on the border between the Bassa Langa and Monferrato. The company philosophy is entirely focused on organic and sustainable production, aiming to allow the grapes to faithfully reflect the nuances of their place of origin.
How it is produced
The production of Barolo Fossati involves the use of Nebbiolo grapes, vinified to encourage a deep aromatic evolution. Once fermentation is complete, the wine undergoes meticulous ageing in large barrels for a period of thirty-six months. This prolonged maturation in wood smooths the tannic texture and harmonises the bouquet, resulting in a sip with a complex structure. This process ensures great stability and gives the wine remarkable ageing potential, estimated between ten and fifteen years.

Our farm is located in Castiglione Tinella, in the province of Cuneo, on the border between the lower Langa and the Monferrato. Here, the hills extend as far as the eye can see, making Castiglione Tinella one of the most wine-growing municipalities in Italy, with over 90% of the land cultivated as vineyards. The rocks that descend towards the Tinella and Belbo valleys frame the carefully combed rows of vines and the patches of woodland that interrupt the geometry of the vineyards, offering a unique setting.
