Description

What kind of wine it is

The Krettnacher Ober Schaferhaus Spatlese produced by Hofgut Falkenstein is a white wine made from Riesling grapes. With a pale straw yellow colour and greenish highlights, it reveals aromas of white peach, lime and green apple. On the palate, this Spätlese is juicy and vibrant, harmonising a subtle sweetness with a sharp acidity. It finishes with a long and crystalline aftertaste, confirming the depth of a top-tier label recognised by international critics.

Where it comes from

It originates in Germany, in the Krettnacher Ober Schäferhaus subzone, within the Mosel region. Its territorial identity emerges thanks to a pronounced slate minerality, which enhances the fruity aromas and imparts tension. The soil’s imprint amplifies the natural freshness, ensuring a linear and profound development. This vocation guarantees impeccable balance and a clean persistence, a true reflection of the terroir.

How it is produced

Vinified to enhance aromatic purity and gustatory precision, this wine boasts remarkable ageing potential. It does not require decanting and is best enjoyed at a serving temperature of 10-12 °C. Its pronounced sweet-acid vein pairs beautifully with spicy Asian dishes, but is equally suitable for accompanying freshwater fish, soft cheeses and light starters with understated elegance.

From this winery
Erich Weber of Hofgut Falkenstein makes ultra-traditional, dry-tasting Saar Rieslings. He likes to call himself "Winzer Weber." (Winzer is German for winegrower.) In other words, the emphasis is on the work in his vineyards, where he spends most of his days. With his tan and rugged face, he looks the part, too. Since his middle son, Johannes, has joined him full-time, there has been more of a focus on Rieslings with residual sugar. In recent years, their wines have also caught the attention of critics, both in and outside Germany. Read more
