Description
What kind of wine is it
Haras De Pirque Hussonet Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon is an authentic Chilean organic red, a true expression of the Maipo region. It is crafted from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes, presenting in the glass with an intense violet colour. The aromatic profile evokes aromatic herbs, tobacco, and pronounced mineral notes. On the palate, it is complex and persistent, with flavours of cherry, blackcurrant, and strawberry, enriched by delicate spicy nuances. The structure is well-defined and supported by soft tannins, offering a deep and satisfying sip.
Where does it come from
The grapes are sourced from the northern area of Maipo, a renowned Chilean wine region located a short distance from Santiago. The area benefits from irrigation by the Maipo River and the influence of cold currents that flow through the mountains. These soil and climate conditions preserve the aromatic integrity of the grapes, promoting excellent balance on the palate. The Haras de Pirque estate, set within a vast property, combines viticulture with the renowned thoroughbred horse breeding, a distinctive feature of the estate's identity.
How is it produced
Production begins with manual harvesting, vinifying each plot separately to best manage extraction. After destemming and pressing, pump-overs help to define a solid structure. Fermentation takes place in wooden barrels, followed by malolactic fermentation to harmonise the sensory profile. This is followed by twelve months of ageing in French oak barrels, which impart measured elegance. The wine is finally bottled without fining or filtration, completely avoiding the use of agents such as albumin or casein.
History and Curiosities
Born from the collaboration between the Marchesi Antinori and the Chilean estate Haras de Pirque, this exceptional wine expresses all the purity of the Maipo Valley. The estate, founded in 1992 and renowned for breeding thoroughbred horses, celebrates its history through the iconic steed on its label. The fertile soils, refreshed by sea breezes, give this still organic red an unmistakable identity. A masterpiece of South American elegance and passion, able to enhance its terroir thanks to skilful ageing in French oak barrels.

The collaboration between Haras de Pirque, a producer of excellence in the area, and Marchesi Antinori stems from the desire to 'explore' the potential of Chile. The wine that has become a symbol of the union between the two wine producers is Albis, the fruit of an international grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carmenere, the Chilean grape par excellence.
Furthermore, the conviction that the Andean wine-growing area of Chile represents a natural habitat for Sauvignon led Marchesi Antinori to start a specific project to produce this extraordinary variety, resulting in the Albaclara wine. Read more
