Description

What type of wine is it

Galantas Gran Reserva by Haras de Pirque is an organic red wine from the Maipo Valley in Chile, with great structure, born from a careful blend of Cabernet Franc and Carménère. It presents a ruby red colour with deep violet reflections, introducing an intense aromatic profile. On the nose, clear hints of forest fruits emerge, expertly interwoven with notes of graphite, spices and cocoa. The tasting reveals a fresh, elegant character with a well-defined mineral texture, supported by pleasantly soft tannins leading towards a broad and persistent finish, after ageing in French oak barrels.

Where it comes from

This blend comes to life in the vineyards located in the renowned Maipo Valley, more specifically in the historic Pirque area, on the slopes of the Andes. The vines take root at an altitude of seven hundred metres above sea level, in an ecosystem where the native vegetation of myrtle and boldo contributes slight balsamic notes. The microclimate plays a fundamental role in the phenolic development of the grapes: the cold Andean nights contrast with milder days, ensuring slow ripening. This distinct diurnal temperature range allows the wine to be infused with an excellent structure, while keeping the palate vibrant.

How it is produced

The production of this Gran Reserva follows a strictly organic agricultural approach. After the harvest between April and May, the grapes undergo separate vinification to enhance the identity of the different parcels. The must undergoes a pre-fermentative cold maceration in stainless steel tanks and oak vats, a technique that promotes optimal aromatic extraction. Subsequently, fermentation begins spontaneously thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. The process concludes with a careful ageing period of fourteen months in French oak barrels, which rounds off the tannins and enhances the overall balance of the wine.

History and interesting facts

Galantas originates in Pirque, in the Maipo Valley at the foot of the Andes, where Antinori's expertise enhances the Chilean terroir. From the historic organic vineyards located at an altitude of 700 metres, the grapes benefit from the cold Andean nights which perfectly preserve their aromas. The plots of Cabernet Franc and Carménère are vinified separately using indigenous yeasts to express their pure identity. The long ageing in French oak barriques for fourteen months gives this red wine extraordinary elegance.

Haras de Pirque is a unique estate located in the northern part of Chile's Maipo Valley, known for producing high-quality wines.

The collaboration between Haras de Pirque, a producer of excellence in the area, and Marchesi Antinori stems from the desire to 'explore' the potential of Chile. The wine that has become a symbol of the union between the two wine producers is Albis, the fruit of an international grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carmenere, the Chilean grape par excellence.

Furthermore, the conviction that the Andean wine-growing area of Chile represents a natural habitat for Sauvignon led Marchesi Antinori to start a specific project to produce this extraordinary variety, resulting in the Albaclara wine.
