Description
What kind of wine it is
Gottardi Blauburgunder Mazzon Pinot Nero is a wine that precisely reflects the character of the Alto Adige region. Visually, it displays a bright ruby red colour, offering a bouquet defined by intense aromas of forest fruits and morello cherry, enriched by a subtle spicy note. On the palate, it is juicy and multi-faceted, supported by an enveloping and harmonious texture. This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with flavourful first courses, veal or poultry, and also enhances selections of mature cheeses with great balance.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the vineyards of Mazzon, above Egna, located within the Monte Corno Nature Park. In this area of the Lower Atesina, the Gottardi winery’s vines benefit from an excellent microclimate. The terroir is characterised by limestone and sandstone soils, which give the wine a profound aromatic finesse. Every stage of cultivation is carried out with strict respect for the environment, safeguarding the integrity of the ecosystem. This combination ensures a product that remains true to the winegrowing identity of Trentino-Alto Adige.
How it is produced
Production begins with a meticulous manual selection of the grapes. In the winery, gravity flow is preferred, in order to reduce mechanical stress and preserve the integrity of the fruit. Fermentation takes place in open oak vats at a controlled temperature. Subsequently, the wine matures for a year in barriques, then completes its elegant ageing by resting for a further eight months in large wooden casks, where it acquires its harmonious complexity and a pleasant spiciness.
History and Curiosities
Originally from Burgundy, this grape variety is masterfully expressed in the Südtiroler Blauburgunder Mazzon from the Gottardi winery, founded in 1900. On the nine hectares located in the Bassa Atesina, nestled in the Monte Corno Park, the hand-selected grapes benefit from soils rich in limestone and sandstone. The elegant 2019 vintage, awarded 93 Decanter points, translates the essence of this region into an Alto Adige DOC of absolute prestige.
