Description

What kind of wine it is

Barolo Riserva Monprivato Ca’ d’Morissio by Giuseppe Mascarello is a structured and highly prestigious red wine, made from Nebbiolo grapes of the rare Michet biotype. In the glass, it displays a garnet red hue enriched with vivid orange highlights. On the nose, it reveals a complex and profound aromatic profile, characterised by a fruity and spicy bouquet, accompanied by elegant floral notes. On the palate, it offers excellent body, supported by a solid structure and a vigorous character that define its austere and full style. Its long and satisfying persistence makes it the ideal companion for dishes based on red meats, game, and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

The origin of this Barolo Riserva lies in the heart of Piedmont, in the renowned Monprivato subzone located in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. This specific wine-growing area imparts a well-defined and widely recognisable territorial character to the wine. The agronomic peculiarities of the cru translate into a sip with a solid structural framework and remarkable ageing potential, capable of evolving optimally for decades. Proper horizontal storage in the cellar, protected from direct light and temperature fluctuations, preserves the elegance of this profound red wine.

How it is produced

The production process begins with careful green thinning in summer to optimise the ripening of the bunches before harvest. In the cellar, a traditional submerged cap fermentation takes place, lasting about three or four weeks, to ensure balanced extraction. The wine matures in Slavonian oak barrels for around forty months. This lengthy ageing consolidates the tannic structure in preparation for subsequent release. To fully appreciate its complexity, it is recommended to decant for one hour and serve at a temperature of 18°C.

Nebbiolo has long been immemorial the viney symbol and the finest of the Langa albese viticulture, and when it finds the right combination with a terroir of great vocation, it can express itself to sublime levels in a wine, a strong personality, intensity of scents, great tannins velvety and the possibility of great evolution and keeping in time.

The members of the Giuseppe Mascarello family have been involved in viticulture for more than a century and a half, first as massagers of the Marquis Giulia Colbert Faletti of Barolo, in the management of the Manescotto Manor in the Commune of La Morra, then in the late 1800s on his own.
