Description
What kind of wine it is
Giuseppe Cortese Langhe Nebbiolo is a refined still red wine from Piedmont that enhances the distinctive characteristics of the Nebbiolo grape variety. In the glass, it displays a garnet red colour, while the bouquet is characterised by delicate notes of small red fruits. On the palate, it offers a dry and fresh sip, well supported by a typical tannic balance. This Langhe is ideal to be enjoyed young, but it also has a solid structure capable of evolving positively in the cellar for several years.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Barbaresco, in a hilly area situated between 230 and 330 metres above sea level. The vines grow on calcareous-clay soils, which are essential for giving definition and vigour to the raw material. The vineyards are trained using the Guyot system with a density of four thousand vines per hectare. The choice of a limited yield is strategic to preserve the perfect balance between ripeness and freshness, ensuring an expressive profile that is authentic and true to its place of origin.
How it is produced
Production begins with a careful manual harvest, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks for about thirty days. The maturation process takes place over twelve months in Slavonian oak barrels, using woods of different ages. This stage allows the tannic texture to soften, preparing the wine for the final step: a rest of at least six months in the bottle, which is essential to harmonise every element before release.
History and Curiosities
This Langhe Nebbiolo DOC embodies the excellence of the Giuseppe Cortese winery, a family-run estate deeply rooted in Barbaresco. From the calcareous-clay terroir comes a garnet wine with delicate hints of red fruits and a dry, fresh palate. After careful fermentation, it matures for twelve months in Slavonian oak barrels, refining the complexity of its bouquet. The 2022 vintage, praised by Vinous, offers a typical tannic balance and an elegance that makes it perfect to enjoy immediately or to let evolve in the cellar for up to ten years.
