Description
What kind of wine it is
Girlan's Pinot Bianco is a still, bright white wine, an authentic expression of Alto Adige. Made from Pinot Bianco grapes, it stands out on the nose for its clear aromas of apple blossom, green apple and white peach, combined with delicate citrus nuances. On the palate, it offers a dry and fresh sip, driven by a pronounced acidity that makes it lively and easy to drink. The finish delivers an elegant fruity persistence, enriched by a characteristic hint of hazelnut. Thanks to its taut aromatic profile, it pairs perfectly with delicate starters, shellfish and white meats.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Cornaiano, on the breezy hills of the Oltradige. The vineyards stretch between 450 and 500 metres above sea level, an ideal position to ensure the regular ripening of the bunches. The vines sink their roots into soils formed from glacial-era sediments and characterised by a strong presence of volcanic porphyry. The mountain microclimate and the unique geology of the soil give the wine its typical mineral imprint, ensuring an expression that is always fresh and with great aromatic clarity.
How it is produced
The process begins with manual harvesting, carefully carried out to preserve the integrity of the bunches. This is followed by gentle pressing and the natural settling of the must. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel vats, a technique essential for preserving the primary aromas of the variety. The wine then matures for three to six months on the fine lees, always in steel. This period on the noble lees enriches the structure and ensures greater persistence, enhancing the natural freshness of the fruit.
History and Curiosities
Produced on the historic 16th-century estate of Cantina Girlan, founded in 1923. Under the guidance of oenologist Gerhard Kofler, the vines grow on glacial-era sediments rich in volcanic porphyry, giving the wine a distinctive Alpine character. Combining tradition and modernity, the wine has received 91 points from James Suckling and 92 points from Wine Enthusiast, which awarded it as a “Best Buy”.
