Description
What kind of wine it is
The Sangue di Giuda dell’Oltrepò Pavese by Giorgi is a sweet sparkling red wine created from a blend of Barbera, Croatina, Uva Rara, Vespolina and Ughetta. It offers an intense and complex aromatic profile, with fruity notes, pronounced vinosity and hints of jam. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, characterised by a pleasant sweetness balanced by lively acidity. The creamy mousse harmoniously accompanies pastries, coffee cakes or, for an intriguing contrast, spicy mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Lombardy, on the hills of Canneto Pavese in the hamlet of Camponoce, at the heart of the renowned Oltrepò Pavese denomination. Production is overseen by Giorgi, a winery established at the end of the nineteenth century. The unique local microclimate imparts distinctive organoleptic qualities to the grapes. Thanks to rigorous vineyard management across dozens of hectares, the winery ensures consistent quality, with its labels distributed in around sixty countries worldwide.
How it is produced
After a manual harvest with careful selection of the bunches, the grapes are destemmed and crushed. The must ferments briefly in contact with the skins, an ideal choice to preserve the varietal aromas. The wine is then transferred to temperature-controlled autoclaves for the second fermentation according to the Charmat method. This sparkling process retains a high residual sugar content, defining the characteristic sweet profile and a creamy mousse of medium persistence that enhances the wine’s vibrancy.
History and Curiosities
The origins of the Giorgi winery date back to 1875, but it was from 1970 onwards that the company established itself as a symbol of Lombard winemaking. Thanks to the innovative drive of the brothers Gianfranco and Antonio, the vineyards of Canneto Pavese gave birth to the unmistakable Giorgi Sangue di Giuda, a sweet sparkling red that has now become an icon of the Oltrepò Pavese. Careful vinification enhances its intense fruity and vinous aromas, offering the palate a pleasantly sweet and persistent sip that encapsulates all the passion of a winery renowned worldwide.

The Giorgi family has always firmly focused on the entire production chain: from the grape to the bottle, laying the foundations from the beginning to realise their grand project of creating a significant wine company. This project became a reality as early as 1970, when the brothers, Gianfranco and Antonio, built a second winery, modern and technologically very advanced, in Canneto Pavese.
With the construction of the third winery in Camponoce, Giorgi finally achieved national consecration in the 1980s, with a sales network of 80 representatives and a presence in the best restaurants and wine shops nationwide.
Today Giorgi Vini exports to 59 countries worldwide, has more than 160 agents in Italy, and has won the most important international and national awards (Three Glasses by Gambero Rosso and Five Bunches sommelier). In addition, Giorgi proudly represents Oltrepò Pavese in Italy and the world. Read more
