Description
What kind of wine it is
Gatinois Champagne Grand Cru Reserve Brut is an elegant expression born from the union of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Crafted using the Traditional Method, it appears in the glass with a bright straw yellow hue and warm honey-coloured highlights. Its aromatic profile is defined by clear notes of white flowers, yellow fruits and candied citrus. On the palate, it is rich and velvety, supported by a fine and persistent perlage that gently caresses the drink. The tasting experience unfolds with great smoothness, revealing pleasant notes of stewed fruit, brioche and honey, creating a precise and thoroughly satisfying flavour profile.
Where it comes from
This distinctive cuvée comes to life in Aÿ, at the heart of the Champagne region, from historically classified hillsides. The Gatinois family has been cultivating vines in this area since 1696, following a strict organic and sustainable approach. The seven hectares of family-owned vineyards provide all the grapes for this blend, ensuring complete control over the raw material at every stage of cultivation. The close connection with these plots defines the deep soul of this Champagne Grand Cru, which combines the natural power of the land with marked elegance, offering an authentic expression of the terroir without any compromise on quality.
How it is produced
The production of this sparkling wine follows the strict rules of the Traditional Method, involving a skilful secondary fermentation in the bottle. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are carefully blended to create a harmonious and stylistically consistent cuvée. A key stage in building its complexity is the ageing on the lees “sur lattes”, which continues in the cellars for a full three years. This long and patient maturation encourages the development of a distinctly creamy texture and perfectly integrates the pastry notes. The final result is a wine of remarkable balance, combining evident structural richness with dynamic freshness.

In the early 20th century, great-grandfather Emile MICHEL-LE CACHEUR was a fervent defender of the winemakers’ interests in Champagne. In 1911, he became one of the founding members of today’s SGV champagne syndicate. His daughter, Marie, married Charles GATINOIS in 1921 and continued her father’s work: the GATINOIS name has appeared on the bottles ever since.
Emile and Micheline GATINOIS took over the domaine after the Second World War. Between 1980 and 2010, their daughter Marie and her husband Pierre CHEVAL were at the helm of the prestigious family company. Dedication is clearly a family trait which has been passed on, as Pierre is the founder of the Villa Bissinger (The National Institute of Wines from Champagne) and currently chairs the Champagne Landscapes Association that lead to their listing to the Unesco World Heritage list in 2015. His son, Louis, now perpetuates the family’s 300 years of knowhow. Read more
