Description
What kind of wine it is
Frescobaldi Santa Maria Morellino di Scansano is a still red wine from Tuscany that elegantly reflects the character of the Maremma. The result of a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, it displays an intense, bright ruby colour. On the nose, it reveals pronounced notes of cherry in spirit and plum, enriched by spicy hints of pepper. On the palate, it is dry and warm, characterised by a balanced structure where fine tannins merge with a fresh acidic drive, finishing with an ethereal and persistent aftertaste.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the renowned Morellino di Scansano area, located in the province of Grosseto. The vineyards benefit from a favourable Mediterranean climate, growing at an altitude between one hundred and fifty and five hundred metres above sea level. The optimal sun exposure ensures consistent ripening, allowing the Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon to maintain a clear and fragrant aromatic profile. The environment gives the wine a warming embrace, defining a sip with a marked territorial identity.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a careful selection of the bunches. Vinification takes place in steel containers to preserve the aromatic integrity and freshness of the fruit, avoiding the use of wood to maintain the original liveliness of the varieties. Ageing continues for ten months in the same tanks, consolidating the wine’s flavour structure. This is followed by a final resting period before release, an essential step for the integration of aromas and to harmonise the finesse of the tannins with the acidic component.
