Description
What kind of wine it is
Casa delle Colonne Franciacorta Brut by Freccianera is a refined sparkling wine produced in Lombardy. Made from a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it is crafted using the Traditional Method. It displays an intense straw yellow hue and an extremely fine, persistent and tight perlage. On the nose, it reveals complex tertiary notes, where hints of apple, citrus and aromatic herbs blend with nuances of pastry and chocolate. On the palate, it is mature and harmonious, characterised by an extractive richness that evolves into a long, spicy finish with hints of toasted almond. It is ideal for accompanying starters, shellfish and cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the hills of Borgonato and Torbiato, in the heart of Franciacorta. The vineyards grow on glacial moraine and fluvial deposits, composed of clay, sand and gravel. This soil composition ensures optimal drainage, which is essential for the health and development of the vines. These geological features give the sparkling wine a pronounced mineral character. The name of the cuvée pays homage to the family's historic residence, bearing witness to a deep territorial bond with the prestigious local winemaking context.
How it is produced
Production is based on limited yields and a harvest carried out entirely by hand. After gentle pressing, the musts ferment and mature in selected barrels. The secondary fermentation in the bottle takes place according to the principles of the Traditional Method, involving a very long period on the lees which imparts extraordinary structural complexity. This prolonged ageing defines a Brut style with low residual sugar, characterised by an enveloping gustatory progression. It is recommended to serve the sparkling wine at a temperature between 6 and 8°C.

From the love between Francesco and Giustina, Ignazio, the first-born son, and Antonio Berlucchi, the second-born son, were born. On the death of his father Francesco, the eldest son Ignazio inherited the historical palace of the Lana-Berlucchi family, while the second-born Antonio inherited the Casa delle Colonne and a set of agricultural plots particularly suited to the cultivation of vines. Antonio founded the farm in 1927, which he then left to his five children, siblings Francesco, Gabriella, Marcello, Roberto and Pia Donata Berlucchi.
In 1977, the siblings began to produce Franciacorta, initiating the historic and current collaboration with oenologist Cesare Ferrari; on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of production, the Freccianera millesimati line was born: Millesimo 2007, a limited series of 3,000 bottles destined to be released on the market after 6 years of ageing on the lees.
The arrow shot from the medieval past that the family's palaces and vineyards recount, arrives today, with the unchanged black colour, from the first label of 1977. Read more
