Description
What kind of wine it is
The Sofi Müller Thurgau by Franz Haas is a still white wine that faithfully expresses the identity of the Dolomite Vineyards. Made from Müller Thurgau grapes, it reveals itself with a straw yellow hue. The aromatic profile is clear and fragrant, able to harmonise delicate Moscato notes with hints of fresh fruit, peach, and yellow primrose. On the palate, it displays an elegant structure, enlivened by a vibrant freshness that leads to a pleasantly savoury and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
The origins of this Müller Thurgau lie in the enchanting mountain landscape of Trentino-Alto Adige. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 500 and 800 metres, with a southern exposure that favours excellent ripening. The richness of the sip is linked to the particularity of the soils composed of clay and porphyry, which give the wine a pronounced minerality and refined aromatic quality. In this Alpine environment, the Franz Haas family enhances the vocation of the territory through meticulous work aimed at highlighting the varietal purity.
How it is produced
Production begins with a brief maceration on the skins to encourage the extraction of aromas, followed by gentle pressing of the destemmed bunches. The temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in steel tanks, the perfect material for preserving the freshness of the fruit. The wine matures in the same containers for about five months, completing the process with a brief final ageing. This careful oenological process ensures extraordinary expressive clarity and an extremely dynamic drinkability.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1880, the Franz Haas winery has passed down a philosophy of perfection through eight generations, combining science and passion. This Müller Thurgau was born from the wish of Sofia, the owners' daughter, who had dreamed since childhood of a wine bearing her name. The result is a fresh and youthful expression, enhanced by a lively abstract label. Thanks to the valuable contribution of oenologist Stefano Tiefenthaler, the 2024 vintage stands out for its elegance, awarded 89/100 by James Suckling.
