Description
Style of wine
Franz Haas Pinot Nero is a still red wine from Alto Adige with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata status, which the producer likes to define as “the white among the reds”. This interpretation of Pinot Nero, aged in barrels, offers a fresh and lively sip, supported by elegant tannins that make the tasting experience round and satisfying. The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of morello cherry and raspberry, marzipan, plum jam, cloves, and cinnamon, closing with deep hints of forest floor. The palate, inviting and dynamic, is enhanced by a pleasant balsamic touch on the finish, ideal for pairing with red meats, roast game, and mature cheeses.
Provenance
This wine is born in Alto Adige, a mountainous region with extraordinary soil and climate characteristics. The vines grow on heterogeneous soils, in plots located between 350 and 900 metres above sea level. The production philosophy is based on high-density planting and low-yield selection, an agronomic approach aimed at ensuring high concentration and consistent quality within the context of high-altitude viticulture.
How it is produced
Fermentation takes place in open vats, with frequent pump-overs and punch-downs to encourage the optimal extraction of colour and aromas from the skins. Subsequently, the wine matures for about a year in barrels, an ageing process designed to provide structure without overpowering the varietal's delicacy. The production process concludes with a further period of several months to harmonise the aromas and stabilise the flavour profile.
