Description
What kind of wine it is
Vigne a Porrona Montecucco Sangiovese is a Tuscan red wine produced by Tenute Folonari. Made from a refined blend of Sangiovese and Colorino, it stands out for its intense ruby colour. On the nose, it opens with generous aromas of red fruit, enriched by balsamic hints and spicy notes of aromatic herbs. The palate is dry, full and warm, characterised by vigorous, well-ripened tannins. The juicy persistence of the finish, with hints of blackcurrant and cherry, pairs perfectly with flavourful meats and fresh pasta with ragù.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the Montecucco area, in the municipality of Cinigiano. The estate's vineyards, located near Montalcino and dominated by the profile of Monte Amiata, grow in a Mediterranean environment. Constant sea breezes combine with marked temperature variations during the harvest, favouring optimal grape development. These climatic conditions give the wine a harmonious balance between strength and softness, making it a true expression of the terroir of the Grosseto area and the family's historic winemaking tradition.
How it is produced
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, with a twenty-five day maceration on the skins to ensure optimal extraction of colour and tannins. Subsequently, the wine matures for twelve months in wooden barrels, a process that softens its structure and broadens its organoleptic profile. A glass ageing of at least four months completes the production cycle, resulting in an energetic, balanced red with remarkable ageing potential.

In 1912, Italo Folonari, Ambrogio Folonari's grandfather, with his brother Francesco, bought the Ruffino winery, known at the time for its characteristically flask-packed Chianti.
After the Second World War, some profound changes took place in Italy in terms of economic development and rising living standards. This trend also influenced the wine sector, where the Folonari family, and Ambrogio in particular, were among the first to promote this trend by producing new, high-quality wines that helped create the 'new frontier' of Italian wine. At the end of the 1960s, the family sold the company 'Fratelli Folonari', which was positioned in the table wine segment, and began to concentrate on bottled wines at origin, thanks also to the acquisition of the famous Tenuta di Nozzole near Greve in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico region. At the same time, they bought other estates in Tuscany with the aim of producing fine wines, including 'Cabreo' conceived by Ambrogio in the 1980s.
In 2000, Ambrogio left Ruffino and the rest of the family and created with his son the: "Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute", holding some of the best agricultural properties. This gave rise to a group of companies located in areas with the highest wine-growing vocation in Tuscany. Read more
