Description
What type of wine it is
Lacryma Christi Bianco from Feudi di San Gregorio is an elegant white wine from Campania. Born from a blend of Coda di Volpe and Falanghina grapes, it fully expresses the character of Mount Vesuvius. Fresh and smooth, it offers fruity and floral aromas, with a lively citrus vein and a distinct mineral savouriness. On the palate, it is balanced, with an accessible character and a harmonious structure, ideal for those looking for a white with a defined territorial imprint, thanks to vinification and maturation exclusively in stainless steel.
Where it comes from
This wine comes to life on the sunny south-eastern slopes of Vesuvius, in Campania. The vineyards, cultivated at an altitude of about 170 metres, are rooted in a characteristic volcanic soil, lavy and porous, extraordinarily rich in minerals. This soil is capable of retaining moisture and then gradually releasing it to the vines. These geological peculiarities, combined with a mild Mediterranean climate, create an ideal environment for the growth and optimal ripening of the bunches, giving the wine its typical savoury imprint.
How it is produced
The production of Lacryma Christi Bianco is designed to preserve the aromatic integrity of the grapes. Vinification begins with temperature-controlled fermentation, maintained between 16 and 18 °C, inside stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a short phase of maturation in steel lasting about five months. This step is essential to avoid oxidation and keep the natural fruity and floral fragrance that characterises the wine's aromatic profile intact before bottling.
History and trivia
Lacryma Christi Bianco DOC by Feudi di San Gregorio is linked to an ancient legend: it is said that the tears of Jesus, falling on the Gulf of Naples, fertilised the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. The area boasts a millenary tradition whose origins date back to the 5th century BC, finding continuity with the work of monks during the Middle Ages. For centuries, this volcanic soil has enhanced the indigenous Coda di Volpe and Falanghina grapes, recounting the deep bond between Campania and the centuries-old art of winemaking.
