Description
What kind of wine it is
Lacryma Christi Bianco by Feudi di San Gregorio is an elegant still white wine from Campania, created from a blend of Coda di Volpe and Falanghina grapes. An expression of the Lacryma Christi area of Vesuvius, this wine stands out for its harmonious profile and clear territorial character. In the glass, it displays a brilliant, crystalline straw yellow colour, releasing on the nose fresh aromas of white fruits, delicate floral notes and light hints of Mediterranean aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is smooth, characterised by a lively citrus freshness and a pronounced mineral savouriness that invites another sip.
Where it comes from
This white wine is born in Campania, on the sunny south-eastern slopes of Vesuvius, at around one hundred and seventy metres above sea level. The vineyards sink their roots into a distinctive volcanic and porous soil, a lava terrain rich in minerals that can retain moisture and gradually release it. This geological peculiarity, combined with the mild Mediterranean climate, encourages optimal growth and regular ripening of the grapes. The area boasts a millennia-old winemaking tradition, dating back to the 5th century BC, which continued through the careful work of monks in the Middle Ages.
How it is produced
Production aims to preserve the aromatic integrity of the grapes through precise processes. Vinification begins with temperature-controlled fermentation in steel tanks, ideal for enhancing the clarity of the aromas. Afterwards, the wine undergoes a brief maturation in steel for about five months, an essential step to avoid oxidation and maintain the floral and fruity fragrance intact. This process ensures a clean glass, able to balance the natural softness of the sip with the elegant savoury streak derived from the volcanic ash.
History and Curiosities
The Lacryma Christi Bianco DOC from Feudi di San Gregorio has its roots in an ancient legend: it is said that the tears of Jesus, which fell onto the Gulf of Naples, made the slopes of Vesuvius fertile. For centuries, this volcanic and porous soil has enhanced the native Coda di Volpe and Falanghina grapes. Thus is born a harmonious wine with citrus aromas, capable of offering the palate an elegant mineral streak and a lively freshness, ideal for perfectly accompanying light aperitifs, vegetarian recipes and delicate seafood dishes.
