Description
What kind of wine it is
Ferragù's Amarone della Valpolicella is a still red wine that authoritatively embodies the prestige of its homeland. This captivating blend is created from the union of Corvina, Corvinone, Croatina, Oseleta and Rondinella grapes. It presents a deep ruby red hue, a prelude to a complex bouquet in which dried grapes and jam stand out, enriched by elegant spicy notes. On the palate, it reveals a complex structure, characterised by a full and persistent sip, harmonised by a pronounced tannic softness.
Where it comes from
This wine is produced in Veneto, specifically in the area of Cellore di Illasi. The vineyards, located at an altitude of around two hundred and twenty metres, benefit from an east-west exposure ideal for grape ripening. The vines are trained using the Guyot espalier system with high planting density, a technique that encourages a high concentration of aromas. The terroir is distinguished by a medium-textured soil with a rich presence of stony skeleton, geological elements that give the wine intensity and excellent ageing potential.
How it is produced
Production begins in October with manual harvesting. The bunches are left to rest for a drying period of about ninety days, a fundamental process for concentrating sugars and aromas. After cold maceration and fermentation in steel, the wine undergoes a long ageing process of forty-eight months in American and French oak barrels, which refine its sensory profile. To best appreciate its nuances, decanting is recommended; it is ideal paired with Amarone risotto, mature cheeses, braised meats and game dishes.
History and Curiosities
The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella by Ferragù embodies the excellence of Veneto: it is produced in Cellore d’Illasi from a meticulous 70-90 day drying process of the grapes. This ancient tradition gives rise to a wine with a complex structure, aged for 48 months in American and French oak barriques. The result is an impenetrable ruby red wine with intense allure, the fruit of vines grown on stony soils at an altitude of 220 metres. With an estimated longevity of 10-15 years, it expresses its rich elegance at its best, enveloping the palate with extraordinary tannic smoothness.

The Ferragù estate winery is a structure that divides and unites tradition, with gear and instruments of past times inserted in an ancient structure of romanic origin with bold and solid stone walls, to the most modern machines and technologies, in a happy and suggestive bond.
Traditon and modernity. Old and new. Tracks of the past mixed and dosed in a superlative way, to recreate the perfection of an intense and impenetrable ruby red, a sublime and fascinating flavor and a full and persistent taste.
On the first floor of the Ferragù’s winery, the grapes are left raising-drying. Then, the must is moved into the fermentino. After about thirty-five hours of "cold" maceration at controlled temperature, it will start a ten days fermentation. During this time, the temperature of the fermenting grapes is checked with rigorous punctuality.
This step allows the extraction of the colouring substances, the tannines and all of the aromatic elements directly from the peel.
Fermentines and tanks are all made of steel. Read more
