Description
What kind of wine it is
Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva is a Tuscan still red wine that best expresses the characteristics of the Sangiovese grape in the Chianti Classico region. It appears an intense ruby red in the glass and reveals an aromatic profile where dark cherry and wild berry notes blend with hints of leather, tobacco, and mineral nuances. On the palate, it displays a dense and elegant body, supported by precise acidity and soft yet firm tannins. The sip finishes with a long and warm finish, enriched by delicate spicy notes.
Where it comes from
This expression of Chianti Classico originates in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena. The vines grow between 320 and 420 metres above sea level, benefiting from a favourable south-west exposure that ensures optimal ripening of the grapes. The nature of the soils is fundamental: they are clay and sandy soils, enriched with silt, sandstone, and stratified deposits. This composition supports the structure of the wine and accentuates its mineral nuances. The harvest takes place at different times depending on the characteristics of the specific vineyard plots, to guarantee the perfect degree of ripeness for the Sangiovese.
How it is produced
After the grapes are crushed, the must undergoes fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, accompanied by daily punch-downs and pump-overs. Maceration lasts about two weeks to ensure excellent structural extraction. The wine then matures in French barriques and Slavonian oak barrels for a period ranging from twelve to sixteen months. After the final blend is created, the wine undergoes a final ageing in bottle for several months, an essential step to integrate the spiciness and perfectly harmonise the tannic texture.

In the second half of the 1970s Giuseppe Mazzocolin entered the family business with the task of commercial development. His studies in the Humanities, his wealth of contacts, his elevated work ethic and his respect for Tuscan and Italian culture constitute the foundation for the growth of the Fèlsina winery, paving the way for the beginnings of their international recognition.
Their friendship with Luigi Veronelli and collaboration with oenologist Franco Bernabei shaped a developmental strategy that has proven itself extremely coherent starting with the wines of 1983, the first year of Fontalloro and of Rancia, up to the present day. With Domenico and Giuseppe Poggiali at the helm, an extraordinary development began which, since 1990, also includes Giovanni Poggiali, the oldest of Giuseppe’s three son Read more
