Description
What kind of wine it is
Cantore John by Fattoria Nanni is an organic macerated wine, an authentic expression of Verdicchio grown in the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore area. This elegant orange wine displays a bright amber-yellow hue, hinting at a structured and vibrant profile. The bouquet reveals notes of apricot and broom, intertwined with fresh hints of grape and delicate touches of candied lemon. On the palate, it is dry, fresh and savoury, marked by a marine imprint that leads to an apple finish, offering persistence based on the refinement of its flavour nuances.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Arsicci, in the municipality of Apiro, in an area nestled between the Apennines and the breezes of the Adriatic Sea. The vineyards are situated over four hundred metres above sea level with a sunny south-west exposure that favours perfect ripening of the grapes. The vine roots delve into mainly clay soils, enriched with veins of sandstone, silt and layers of calcium carbonate. This particular terroir gives the wine an unmistakable marine character and a saline freshness that enhance its territorial identity.
How it is produced
After manual harvesting, the grapes rest overnight at low temperatures to preserve their aromatic integrity. Destemming precedes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in steel tanks, with skin maceration for about three weeks without temperature control. Ageing continues for six months, enriching the structure thanks to time spent on fine lees and the practice of bâtonnage. The exclusive use of steel preserves the varietal clarity, delivering a taut sip ideal for accompanying seafood dishes and vegetarian recipes.
History and Curiosities
The name Cantore John celebrates the meeting between Roberto Cantori and the Norwegian expert John Sonnichsen, drawing inspiration from the famous notes of Norwegian Wood. The captivating bespoke label masterfully intertwines the profiles of the gentle Marche hills with the elegant grains of a distant wood, serving as a metaphor for character and conviviality. This multi-award-winning organic macerated Verdicchio is a product of absolute prestige, consecrated by the achievement of the coveted Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso and the prestigious mention in the Vitae AIS guide.

"Where I come from there is a mountain that protects the valley and the castles around it. It’s nice to have a little peak in the distance, sharply peaked on one side, a crooked turtle dome, and acting as your beacon when you don’t have the sea. It’s called Monte San Vicino and it also looks beautiful over a large vineyard, and guards it, in the Apiro countryside. From this vineyard was born the wine of the young Fattoria Nannì, all painted by Nina, a green balcony to a lighthouse that is shaped like a rock, and that has been telling us since we were little what the weather will be, what colour the sky will be, all that you can see and not see, and which way you will find the moon."
