Description

What kind of wine it is

The Rosso di Montepulciano from Fattoria del Cerro is a still red wine with a fresh and smooth character, capable of expressing the essence of the Tuscan land. This blend is made from Prugnolo Gentile, a historic Sangiovese biotype, and Mammolo, which give the glass a deep ruby red hue. On the nose, it offers a defined bouquet with pronounced red fruit notes, myrtle, violet, and subtle hints of cocoa. The palate reveals good overall harmony supported by well-integrated tannins, finishing with a long and satisfying aftertaste.

Where it comes from

This label is born in the heart of Montepulciano, in the province of Siena, within an area renowned for its great reds. The Tuscan estate, whose history dates back to the first land acquisitions of the 1920s and is linked to the name of an ancient oak tree on the property, is now dedicated to organic viticulture that respects the environment. Fattoria del Cerro is the largest private producer of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, working its own vineyards with careful methods to enhance the identity of the territory of origin.

How it is produced

The creation of this red begins with a manual harvest of the grapes, which are picked separately by variety and plot. Fermentation with maceration takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, accompanied by regular daily pump-overs. Afterwards, part of the wine rests in French oak barrels, while the remainder continues to mature in steel. The meticulous process concludes with a targeted bottle ageing, which consolidates the fine spice aromas and tobacco nuances.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1922 following acquisitions by the Baiocchi brothers and inspired by the name of an ancient oak tree (the “cerro”), Fattoria del Cerro blends Sienese tradition with organic viticulture. Officially active since 1978 in the heart of Montepulciano, the estate boasts an impressive 570 hectares and today stands out as the largest private producer of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. With an annual production exceeding one million bottles, this winery embodies the purest Tuscan excellence, enhancing every grape through a deep and genuine connection with its land of origin.

Tenute del Cerro, with its 94 hectares registered for Vino Nobile, is the largest private producer of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano in the province of Siena.

The breadth and variety of exposure of its vineyards, therefore, guarantee the possibility of selecting, depending on the vintage, the best grapes to produce high-quality wines.

Prugnolo Gentile, the grape variety at the basis of Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, is a typical Sangiovese of the area that has adapted to the soil and climate over the centuries. Vino Nobile is produced in three versions: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva and the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano "Antica Chiusina" selection. In addition to these wines, the estate also produces Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG, Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, 'Manero' Rosso di Toscana IGT, and 'Sangallo' Vinsanto di Montepulciano DOC.
