Description

What kind of wine it is

Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore is a full-bodied and harmonious red wine, crafted by Fattoria dei Barbi. Made from Sangiovese Grosso grapes, it offers a complex bouquet of black cherry, raspberry and Damask rose, enhanced by elegant nuances of cocoa, coffee and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is smooth and deep, where the ripeness of the fruit is supported by well-integrated tannins and pleasant hints of dark chocolate. This red, matured in wood, stands out for its long persistence and an enveloping, well-structured finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Tuscany, in the heart of the Montalcino area, from the historic Vigna del Fiore vineyard. The plot, cultivated with vines since the sixteenth century, is the southernmost parcel of the estate. Situated at 350 metres above sea level, it benefits from optimal sun exposure, with vines trained using the free cordon method. The soil, rich in marl and alberese, gives the wine a dense tannic texture and remarkable solidity. The Colombini family has tended these lands since the fourteenth century, dedicating themselves to Brunello production since the nineteenth century.

How it is produced

Production begins with destemming and crushing of the grapes, followed by possible cryo-maceration to optimise polyphenol extraction. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature for about three weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation. Under the guidance of oenologist Maurizio Castelli, the wine matures in small and medium-sized barrels for at least two years, then rests in larger barrels and finishes with four months of bottle ageing. This meticulous process results in a notable dry extract, ensuring harmony between the body’s structure and natural acidic freshness.

History and Curiosities

Born from the legacy of the Colombini family, Brunello Vigna del Fiore originates from a prestigious 5.7-hectare cru cultivated since the 1500s. Fattoria dei Barbi, the first to export this excellence since 1892, masterfully interprets the terroir, ensuring a longevity of over 25 years. The superb 2019 vintage, awarded 96 points by Robert Parker, enchants the palate with enveloping notes of black cherry and Damask rose and well-integrated tannins, offering a deep and lingering emotion.

The Colombini family has owned land in Montalcino since 1352, and the Fattoria dei Barbi since the end of the 18th century. The property extends over 350 hectares of fields and vineyards in southern Tuscany, in Montalcino, Scansano and in Chianti. We have been producing Brunello since 1892 and were the first to export it to Europe, America and Asia. Since the 19th century, our wines have won prizes all over the world, and our blue label has always been the best known Brunello.

The Fattoria dei Barbi today is owned by Stefano Cinelli Colombini, who continues a story that sees the Colombinis linked to these lands for more than six centuries; a very long time in which the family has always defended the traditions and values of the Montalcinese culture, whose last and most precious fruit is Brunello.
