Description
What kind of wine is it
Falkenstein Valle Venosta Riesling is a still white wine made from Riesling grapes. Produced in the Alto Adige Valle Venosta region, it is characterised by a dry style and an extremely low residual sugar content. The organoleptic profile reveals intense aromas of citrus fruits, apricot and peach, which precede a taut and vibrant sip. On the palate, a structured acidity stands out, supported by a distinct minerality. It pairs perfectly with cheeses or with fish dishes, whether lean or oily.
Where does it come from
This wine originates in Naturno, an alpine area characterised by a cool and sunny climate. The soils of the Falkenstein estate are sandy and rich in granite, slate and gneiss, with veins of quartz and mica. This particular soil composition is reflected in the glass, offering a distinct mineral tension and an energetic flavour progression. The strong temperature variations in the mountains allow the Riesling grapes to fully develop their aromatic maturity, while preserving a vigorous acidic drive.
How is it produced
Vinification begins with fermentation in inert containers, in order to preserve the unique characteristics of the grape variety. Maturation continues in large acacia barrels for ten months, during which the wine remains in contact with the coarse lees. This stage helps to consolidate the wine's profile without altering its natural liveliness. This is followed by bottle ageing for five months, an essential phase to perfectly integrate the acidic component and the elegant mineral nuances.
History and Curiosities
Although the roots of this noble grape variety historically lie in the valleys of the Rhine, it is among the cool and sunny vineyards of Naturno that Riesling Renano finds a sublime Alpine expression. The result of the dedication of the Pratzner family, Falkenstein's production comes to life in an evocative cellar carved into the rock. Ageing in large acacia barrels and soils rich in quartz give the wine a pronounced minerality, enhanced by elegant notes of peach and citrus. A structured acidity crowns the tasting, promising excellent longevity.

A dream that does not come by chance: it is in fact here that in the past Schiava grapes were pressed for the family Inn. There are mentions of the Falkenstein wine region and the vineyard dating back to the 12th century, and the Pratzner family can celebrate more than two hundred years of existence.
A traditional outlook and attention to detail. These are words full of meaning for the Pratzner family. The constant daily activities are based on manual work, with the machines only there to provide support. Since 2003, all the wines are vinified in the new cellar. White wines age in large acacia wood casks in the cellar carved into the rock.
Wine is the reflection of the winemaker, and of the passion and philosophy with which the vine is treated. At the Falkenstein winery, we want to continue to produce naturally and to respect the environment. We remain faithful to our intergenerational motto: live in close contact with nature and appreciate it, but never underestimate it. Read more
