Description
What kind of wine is it
Falkenstein Gewürztraminer is a white wine with a dry and concentrated profile. In the glass, it displays an intense yellow colour with warm highlights, revealing distinct aromas of mango and lychee. On the palate, it is supported by a pleasant acidity, finishing with a savoury and dry aftertaste. The elegance of Gewürztraminer enhances fish dishes, cheeses, and vegetarian recipes. Its sip also complements spicy foods and white meats such as duck à l'orange, especially when served at a temperature between 12 and 14 °C.
Where does it come from
This wine comes from South Tyrol, within the renowned area of the Val Venosta. The Falkenstein winery follows a strict organic and sustainable philosophy, dedicating itself to meticulous manual work in the vineyard to respect the ecosystem. The mountain climate gives the wine a pronounced aromatic definition. Maturation takes place in an exclusive cellar carved into the rock, a protected environment that guarantees constant natural conditions, allowing the wine to refine and evolve for three to five years.
How is it produced
Production begins with white vinification at a controlled temperature of 18 °C. Fermentation takes place in acacia wood barrels for a period of six to eight weeks, a process that gently extracts the aromatic components. Subsequently, the wine matures with a nine-month ageing in the same large barrels. The use of acacia is an essential technical choice to support the structure and complexity of the tasting experience, ensuring a result with a clear and harmonious profile.
History and Curiosities
Founded in South Tyrol in 1995 by Franz and Magdalena Pratzner, the Falkenstein estate demonstrates a deep commitment to natural and sustainable viticulture. Through meticulous manual work on its twelve hectares of land, the family fully enhances the elegance of Gewürztraminer. The heart of the production is the cellar carved into the rock: here, the wine patiently matures for nine months in large acacia wood barrels, an artisanal approach that brings out the extraordinary and unmistakable aromatic richness of the vintage.

A dream that does not come by chance: it is in fact here that in the past Schiava grapes were pressed for the family Inn. There are mentions of the Falkenstein wine region and the vineyard dating back to the 12th century, and the Pratzner family can celebrate more than two hundred years of existence.
A traditional outlook and attention to detail. These are words full of meaning for the Pratzner family. The constant daily activities are based on manual work, with the machines only there to provide support. Since 2003, all the wines are vinified in the new cellar. White wines age in large acacia wood casks in the cellar carved into the rock.
Wine is the reflection of the winemaker, and of the passion and philosophy with which the vine is treated. At the Falkenstein winery, we want to continue to produce naturally and to respect the environment. We remain faithful to our intergenerational motto: live in close contact with nature and appreciate it, but never underestimate it. Read more
