Description
What kind of wine it is
Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Cerrino by Tiezzi is a red wine of great character that embodies the essence of Tuscany, made from Sangiovese grapes. It presents a deep garnet red colour, while on the nose it reveals a complex bouquet where ripe fruit aromas stand out, accompanied by a subtle hint of vanilla. On the palate, it is full and harmonious, characterised by intense sensations of wild berries and a solid tannic structure that delivers a long and persistent finish. Thanks to its structure, it is ideal for pairing with beef and game dishes, as well as cured meats and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the hilly areas surrounding Montalcino, from vineyards located at various altitudes. The production combines grapes from the Cerrino and Cigaleta vineyards, cultivated at 350 metres above sea level, with those from the Vigna Soccorso, situated at an altitude of 500 metres. Tiezzi manages these plots with a focus on manual care, with pruning and thinning aimed at maintaining naturally low yields. This careful agronomic management encourages a marked aptitude for long ageing, allowing the wine to evolve elegantly over time.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with fermentation in wooden vats that lasts for over twenty days. The development of structure and elegance continues with a slow maturation of forty-four months in large Slavonian oak barrels. The wine is stabilised naturally, without physical or chemical interventions, maintaining its expressive integrity thanks to the absence of filtration. After a further four months of bottle ageing, it expresses its full potential if served at a temperature of 18-20 degrees, preferably after an hour of decanting.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1985 by the oenologist Enzo Tiezzi, the winery carefully tends historic vineyards located at high altitudes to produce a superb Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. From limited yields comes a majestic Sangiovese, vinified according to traditional methods with fermentation in wooden vats for over twenty days. Its innate elegance is consolidated during an impressive 44-month maturation in large Slavonian oak barrels. Stabilised entirely naturally and bottled without filtration, this masterpiece from the 2021 vintage is limited to just 8,700 bottles.

The current company, founded in the eighties by Enzo Tiezzi, an agronomist and oenologist, covers 10 hectares, 3 of which are cultivated with olive groves and 6 with vineyards, divided into three farms: Cerrino, Cigaleta and Soccorso, heart and jewel of company. All the vineyards are bred with great love and attention, manually performing pruning, thinning and harvesting of the grapes.
The production philosophy followed by Enzo Tiezzi is the traditional one, which requires the fermentation of the grapes in wooden vats and the aging in large Slavonian oak barrels.
The three vineyards are located in different areas of the Ilcinese territory: Cerrino and Cigaleta are located 3 km from Montalcino to 350 meters above sea level; Vigna Soccorso, instead, is adjacent to the center of Montalcino, 500 meters above sea level, cultivated as a small tree, in order to limit its production and enhance its aesthetic appearance.
Vigna Soccorso looks like a stepped garden, surrounded by stone walls, roses, aromatic herbs, forest fruits, fruit trees: all fragrances that magically characterize in the glass the most representative wine of the winery. Read more
