Description
What kind of wine is it
The Charles de Gaulle Champagne by Drappier is a Traditional Method sparkling wine with a bold character, the result of a balanced blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. On the palate, it offers a structured sip, defined by a pleasantly creamy texture and candied nuances. The bouquet reveals clear aromas of citrus, apple, almond and nutmeg. Thanks to its natural complexity, it is ideal for accompanying seafood menus, enhancing shellfish, sushi, fried dishes and soft or mature cheeses.
Where does it come from
This wine is produced in Urville, on soils characterised by Jurassic Kimmeridgian limestone, which imparts a profound minerality. The Drappier winery is located near the residence of Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, establishing a deep historical connection. This cuvée was in fact chosen by Charles de Gaulle for his private receptions. From this connection comes a sip of rare power, an expression of an authentic territorial identity that is consistently praised by critics.
How is it produced
Only first-press musts are used, obtained through gentle pressing. Racking is carried out by gravity to prevent oxidation. After natural settling and without filtration, fermentation takes place at a low temperature, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Half of the blend matures for a year in oak barrels, before ageing for five years according to the Traditional Method. The entire process is certified as carbon neutral.
History and Curiosities
This prestigious cuvée pays tribute to an iconic figure in French history: General Charles de Gaulle. The historic Maison Drappier, founded in 1808 in Urville, was located a short distance from his country residence, making this Champagne Brut his preferred choice for exclusive private receptions. An authentic connection that translates into a wine of great power, character, and extraordinary elegance. The excellence of this label is confirmed by prestigious scores from critics, including notable names such as Robert Parker and Wine Spectator.

Seven centuries later (in 1808), the Drappier family estate was established around the magnificently preserved medieval Abbey. Today, it is managed by Michel Drappier and is used to store and age the exceptional wines he produces.
We planted our vineyard in Urville, the terroir that welcomed the Pinot Noir grape variety that now "runs in our veins" and we manage it according to organic and natural practices.
Our vineyards are like family archives that perpetuate our history. We grow heirloom grape varieties that deserve to be remembered: Fromenteau, Arbanne, Petit Meslier and Blanc Vrai. While many seek to achieve sophisticated excellence, we prefer natural and authentic qualities. We also highlight the many facets of our terroirs through our vinification techniques: our low sugar dosage and moderate use of sulfites – especially in the production of Drappier Brut Nature Sans Soufre.
