Description
What kind of wine it is
Anthìlia is a white wine by Donnafugata, an authentic expression of Sicily. It appears in the glass with a bright straw yellow colour and offers a fragrant bouquet, enlivened by notes of citrus, white-fleshed fruit and wildflowers. On the palate, it reveals a fruity profile, enhanced by a marked freshness and a balanced savouriness that give the sip a good persistence. Thanks to its balance and immediate pleasantness, it is an ideal companion for starters, seafood specialities, vegetable flans and fresh cheeses.
Where it comes from
This blend has its roots in south-western Sicily, among the hills of the Contessa Entellina Estate, at an altitude between two hundred and five hundred metres. The Mediterranean climate, characterised by strong nocturnal temperature variations and breezy summers, encourages optimal aromatic concentration. The vines grow on loam-clay soils, rich in minerals and limestone, which give the wine its typical savoury clarity. These conditions best enhance the Catarratto grape variety, locally known as Lucido, along with other varieties cultivated with full respect for the environment.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place between August and September, following the ripening times of the grapes. To preserve the primary aromas and avoid oxidation, fermentation in stainless steel is carried out at a controlled temperature. Vinification continues with ageing in tank for about two months, allowing the wine to stabilise while maintaining its lively taste. The process concludes with a further rest in bottle for another two months, essential for achieving a harmonious, smooth and technically clean sip.
History and Curiosities
Anthìlia is a tribute to the ancient city of Entella, renamed during Roman times and linked to the territory of Contessa Entellina. Its label depicts a mysterious female face that evokes the ancient civilisation of the Elymians. This white wine represents a milestone, as it was the first wine created by Donnafugata, a company founded in 1983. The colours of the illustration enhance the original sketch by Stefano Vitale, while the estate is committed to protecting biodiversity by safeguarding rare native Sicilian varieties.
