Description

What kind of wine is it

The Riesling Grand Cru Brand from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is a still white wine made from Riesling grapes cultivated using a biodynamic approach. This Alsace Grand Cru stands out for its dry, semi-aromatic style. On the nose, it offers notes of praline fruit, honey and yellow flowers, interwoven with a sulphurous mineral streak. On the palate, it is dry and endowed with intense freshness that develops into power, giving the glass structure. The finish remains austere, softened by a persistent floral return.

Where does it come from

This Riesling originates in Alsace, in the commune of Turckheim. The thirty-year-old vines grow on a steep slope characterised by soil rich in biotite and granite. This specific geological formation imparts a vibrant energy and defined minerality to the wine, outlining a taut and dry profile. The vineyard is tended by Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, a historic estate dedicated to viticulture since 1620, able to enhance the Alsace Grand Cru terroir through a deep understanding of the environment.

How is it produced

The vinification of the Riesling grapes follows sustainable agricultural practices, preserving the grape variety's aromatic clarity. The process results in a wine with pronounced intense freshness and balanced structure. Thanks to a low residual sugar content, the sip is perfectly balanced. This elegant and complex white expresses its full gastronomic potential when chosen to accompany fish and shellfish dishes.

History and Curiosities

Since 1620, the Zind-Humbrecht family has been cultivating vines in Alsace, passing down a craft that today finds its highest expression in this magnificent AOC Alsace Grand Cru. This prestigious Riesling is produced from thirty-year-old vines grown using organic and biodynamic methods on the steep slopes of the Haut-Rhin. Here, an exceptional terroir rich in biotite and granite imparts a vibrant mineral energy to the wine. The deep commitment to nature, certified by ECOCERT, results in a superlative glass, awarded 99 points by James Suckling and 97 by Vinous.

The Domaine Zind-Humbrecht has been created in 1959 by the union of the family owned properties of Zénon Humbrecht, winegrower at Gueberschwihr and of Emile Zind, winegrower in Wintzenheim. Before this date each of our families were producing and selling their wines under their own name.

Winegrower from father to son since the Thirty Years war in Europe (1620) the Humbrecht family has long winemaking traditions. Today Léonard and Ginette, as well, as Olivier and Margaret Humbrecht are working together at the Domaine.

Chanoine Barth, historian of Alsace wines, recalls that the Humbrecht family was already renting vineyards from the Abbaye of Marbach, near Gueberschwihr, in the 18th century. However, we only started to bottle our wines in 1947. Since then, we have only produced grapes from our own vineyards, making the wine and selling it under our own label.

Today the Domaine Zind-Humbrecht has 40 hectares of vineyards located in five different villages in the Haut- Rhin.
