Description
What kind of wine is it
The Marjan Simcic Cru Selection Chardonnay is a still white wine from Slovenia, made from Chardonnay grapes grown in the Brda area, also known as Collio. It expresses the essence of the Primorska Goriška Brda denomination through careful winemaking. Fermentation takes place in truncated conical oak barrels, without the use of selected yeasts and with a brief maceration. The result is a glass with a dry style, full-bodied and intense, characterised by marked freshness, spicy notes and a persistent mineral finish. This wine has an excellent capacity for long-term ageing.
Where does it come from
The Chardonnay for this label originates within the territory of Primorska Goriška Brda. The vines grow between 150 and 250 metres above sea level, benefiting from ideal southeast and southwest exposures. The terroir is defined by calcareous and marl soils, composed of wind-blown sedimentary marl particularly rich in minerals. This specific geological matrix is directly reflected in the wine's profile, giving it a broad flavour texture and a dry finish. The Marjan Simcic winery manages these vineyards in harmony with the natural winegrowing vocation of this prized hilly environment.
How is it produced
Production begins in mid-September with a rigorous manual harvest to select only the best bunches. After gentle pressing, the must undergoes a two-day skin maceration and fermentation conducted by indigenous yeasts. Maturation continues with a prolonged ageing in oak barrels for twenty-one months, followed by a carefully timed rest in the bottle. The absence of filtration preserves the absolute integrity of the palate, which releases clear aromas of apple, cashew and citrus touches, enriched by elegantly integrated woody notes.
