Description
What kind of wine it is
Champagne L’Inattendue Extra Brut from Domaine Lagille is a Blanc de Noirs with a pure profile, an authentic expression of the Pinot Meunier grape variety. In the glass, it displays an intense yellow colour and a fine perlage that enhances its liveliness. On the nose, it develops a pleasantly fruity bouquet, with clear notes of stewed fruit such as quince and plum. Produced according to the Traditional Method, it offers a dry and precise taste. The elegant and clean palate culminates in a long and savoury finish, ideal for accompanying starters and cheese-based dishes.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the Vallée de l’Ardre, on the western slopes of the Montagne de Reims. Here, in the village of Treslon, Domaine Lagille operates as an independent winemaker. The estate’s vineyard covers seven hectares managed through strict organic and sustainable practices. The vines sink their roots into clay-limestone soils enriched with sand and clay, a composition that gives the sip a pronounced saline streak and a clear flavour definition. The identity of this particular Champagne terroir is reflected in a pure and linear interpretation of the land.
How it is produced
The vinification of Champagne L’Inattendue Extra Brut aims to preserve the maximum aromatic purity of the grapes. According to the rules of the Traditional Method, the prise de mousse is followed by a slow ageing on the lees lasting three years, a prolonged period that encourages the development of continuous and refined bubbles. The Extra Brut dosage, characterised by a minimal presence of residual sugars, enhances the wine’s rigorous character. Every choice in the cellar delivers a Blanc de Noirs with a defined fruity imprint and a vibrant, savoury progression.
History and Curiosities
Since 1818, Domaine Lagille & Fils has been cultivating the vineyards of Treslon, in the Vallée de l’Ardre. L’Inattendue Extra Brut is an elegant Blanc de Noirs made from 100% Pinot Meunier, the result of rigorous organic and sustainable practices. As a true independent winegrower, the estate makes the most of its seven hectares of clay-limestone soils, perfecting this traditional method with a long three-year maturation on the lees. This dedication results in a glass with a fine perlage, where the very low residual sugar enhances a savoury finish of exceptional purity.
