Description

What kind of wine is it

Riesling Grand Cru Pfingstberg is an organic still white wine crafted by Jean-Michel Welty. Made from Riesling grapes, it originates from the prestigious Alsace Grand Cru region. In the glass, it reveals a bright straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. The nose is semi-aromatic, dominated by fresh citrus notes and hints of white flowers. On the palate, it displays a balanced structure and an elegant character that precisely reflects the typical features of the grape variety.

Where does it come from

This wine originates from the renowned Pfingstberg area in Alsace. Its profile is shaped by the characteristics of the clay-sandstone soil, which imparts tension and freshness. The Jean-Michel Welty estate boasts a historical legacy dating back to 1738. Now run by Jérémy Welty, the winery has followed a strict organic and sustainable farming regime since 2012. These environmentally friendly methods enhance the natural vocation of the terroir, ensuring grapes of the highest quality.

How is it produced

The winemaking process in the cellar preserves a clear, fresh and persistent profile. On the palate, there is a rounded attack, followed by a lively and balanced drink. The wine's potential allows for excellent ageing over several years. Best enjoyed at a temperature of 10-12 °C, it pairs superbly with shellfish, steamed fish and goat's cheeses. The balance between the slight residual sugars and freshness also complements spicy foods, Asian dishes and the traditional choucroute.

From this winery
  • Start up year: 1738
It was in 1738 that Mr Welty planted his first vines on the hills of the Bollenberg - arid moorland unique in Europe.

Eight generations later, we are continuing this wonderful family story, which links us so closely to the land, the vines and the wine, with the same faith and the same enthusiasm.

Every day, our work is guided by the conviction that nature will give us back what we have given her.

It's been over thirty-five years since Jean-Michel took up the torch left by his father Fernand, gradually doubling the surface area of the vineyard.

In September 2012, he was joined by his son Jérémy, who brought a breath of fresh air to the estate with new creations and a new method of cultivation: Organic Farming.
