Description

What kind of wine it is

Don Luigi Riserva, produced by Di Majo Norante, is an organic wine that embodies the essence of Rosso del Molise Riserva. This blend of Montepulciano and Aglianico displays an intense garnet colour enriched with violet highlights. On the palate, it reveals a robust structure, balanced by a pleasant freshness and a fleshy texture. The bouquet is characterised by notes of plum and ripe fruit, interwoven with elegant hints of undergrowth and vanilla, making it an ideal companion for red meats and structured dishes of Mediterranean cuisine.

Where it comes from

Production originates in the heart of Molise, in Martarosa, within the Contrada Cocciolete. The vineyards are situated at around one hundred metres above sea level and are rooted in calcareous soils, which impart a solid natural structure to the wine. The vines are trained using the spurred cordon system, a choice aimed at enhancing aromatic concentration and limiting yields. In this privileged microclimate, the grapes reach perfect ripeness, expressing remarkable gustatory richness while maintaining a consistently clear and defined profile.

How it is produced

Vinification involves a lengthy maceration of the must in contact with the skins, a crucial phase for extracting the colour intensity and texture that distinguish this Riserva. Subsequently, the wine matures and refines in small oak barrels, where it acquires complexity over time. This period in wood allows the fruity notes to be integrated with delicate toasted nuances, resulting in a harmonious and full-bodied palate, with a marked predisposition for long ageing in the cellar.

History and Curiosities

Produced by the prestigious Di Majo Norante estate, founded in 1968, Don Luigi Riserva 2020 expresses the authentic soul of the Molise region. Under the guidance of oenologist Riccardo Cottarella, the winery enhances the Mediterranean wine heritage through meticulous traditional vinification. The long maceration and slow ageing in small oak barrels give rise to an impressive organic Rosso del Molise DOC. Awarded the Tre Bicchieri by Gambero Rosso, 5 Grappoli FIS and 90 points from James Suckling, this wine represents a true triumph of elegance.

Di Majo Norante has been making wine from grapes ever since 19th century, as is evidenced by the old cellars underneath the square and in the old family building at Campomarino. Commitment to grape growing was inherited first of all by Luigi and then by Alessio Di Majo and continues today alongside research and experimentation. Di Majo Norante produces its own wines from grapes grown in the 123 hectare vineyard of the ancient fief of Marquises Norante di Santa Cristina.

Di Majo Norante wine-making philosophy is consistent with a traditional approach to grape growing and wine production, centred on preserving all the characteristics of Mediterranean wine-making.
