Description

What kind of wine it is

Cos d’Estournel Saint-Estèphe Grand Cru Classé is a still red wine that embodies the essence and prestige of Bordeaux. Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it stands out for its deep, impenetrable ruby red colour. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of plum, blackberry and wild strawberry, enriched by elegant hints of liquorice, tobacco and graphite. On the palate, it reveals a silky and mineral texture, supported by firm tannins and an imposing structure. The sip is vibrant and leads to an exotic finish, persistent and savoury.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from Saint-Estèphe, in the heart of the Médoc. The name “Cos” refers to the characteristic gravel hill on which the estate stands, a defining element of the terroir. The soils, composed of river gravel and clay, provide the ideal environment for vines with an average age of forty-seven years. This particular geological formation gives the wine a pronounced mineral streak and ensures optimal drainage. The harmony between soil and grape varieties encourages extraordinary aromatic extraction, giving the glass remarkable depth of flavour.

How it is produced

Production follows criteria of absolute precision at every stage. After the harvest, a parcel-by-parcel vinification is carried out, designed to enhance the characteristics of each individual area of the estate. Ageing takes place in new barrels for a period of at least eighteen months. This time in wood is essential to integrate the tannic structure, bringing balance, organoleptic density and refined complexity. The result is a wine that perfectly combines power and vibrancy, promising an extraordinary capacity for evolution over time.

Cos d’Estournel is a historic estate in Saint-Estèphe, renowned for its picturesque architecture with exotic influences and classified as a Second Growth in 1855. The name refers to the typical gravel hill of the Médoc, an ideal terroir for the creation of legendary wines. Thanks to sustainable viticulture and meticulous parcel-by-parcel vinification, the fascinating 2021 vintage expresses exceptional quality, capable of competing with the most famous Premier Crus. This Bordeaux gem, awarded 97 points by Wine Enthusiast, reflects all the charm of a timeless Grand Cru Classé.
