Description
What kind of wine it is
Contini Vernaccia di Oristano Riserva is a still white Sardinian wine characterised by a rare and complex evolutionary profile. Made from Vernaccia di Oristano grapes, this wine is shaped by time thanks to a prolonged ageing under a flor yeast veil. In the glass, it displays a golden yellow colour enhanced by amber highlights, while the bouquet is enveloping, with notes of toasted hazelnuts and almond blossom. On the palate, it is dry, warm and impressively structured, finishing with a long, almondy finish of great elegance.
Where it comes from
The wine originates in Sardinia, between the Lower Tirso Valley and the Sinis area, a prime territory for Vernaccia di Oristano. The vineyards are planted on alluvial and sandy soils, enriched by fine clay veins that give the wine fullness and a consistently intense aroma. The typical Mediterranean climate, with its mild winters and hot, breezy summers, encourages an exceptional aromatic concentration, creating the ideal conditions for optimal grape ripening.
How it is produced
After harvesting, which takes place in mid-October, the grapes undergo white vinification with gentle pressing and fermentation at a controlled temperature. The wine's true character emerges during its long rest of over fifteen years in oak and chestnut barrels. The casks are left partially empty to allow the development of surface yeasts; this meticulous oxidative ageing gives the wine its unmistakable breadth of flavour and extraordinary persistence.
History and Curiosities
Produced by the Contini winery, a historic establishment founded in 1898, this Vernaccia di Oristano DOC from 1997 is an authentic Sardinian gem. Its unique character is shaped by a maturation of at least fifteen years in oak and chestnut barrels, where the development of flor yeasts releases unmistakable aromas of toasted hazelnut and almond blossom. Highly acclaimed by critics, this precious Riserva offers a warm sip and an elegant almondy finish, providing an enveloping experience of pure contemplation.
