Description
What kind of wine it is
Sartiglia by Contini is a dry red wine that expresses the essence of Cannonau di Sardegna. This blend of Cannonau and Carignano grapes appears in the glass with an intense ruby red colour, which over time develops into elegant garnet hues. The bouquet is rich and enveloping, with notes of ripe plum, wild blackberries and small dark forest fruits. On the palate, it reveals a warm and full-bodied structure, enhanced by fine spices and hints of Mediterranean scrub. It is the ideal pairing to accompany grilled red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Obsidian Lands of Monte Arci and the Valley of the Tirso River, in the Oristano area. The vineyards are trained on trellises at about two hundred metres above sea level, immersed in a Mediterranean climate characterised by hot, breezy summers and mild winters. The scarce rainfall encourages a regular and concentrated ripening of the grapes. The composition of the volcanic soils, sandy and partly clayey, provides the vines with an ideal environment, giving the final product a complex structure and a pronounced territorial character.
How it is produced
The grapes, harvested in September, undergo careful crushing followed by fermentation, which includes a maceration on the skins of about ten days to optimise the extraction of colour and tannins. After gentle pressing, maturation continues in vitrified cement vats and stainless steel tanks. Part of the batch rests in oak barrels, a fundamental step to refine the bouquet and lend smoothness to the palate. The result is a wine with a well-defined vinosity, harmonious and capable of remaining intact for several years.
