Description

What kind of wine it is

Luna by Conti Zecca is a refined still white wine with Protected Geographical Indication, produced in Salento. This elegant blend combines Chardonnay and Malvasia Bianca in a faithful expression of the Apulian territory. Fermented in barrels, it boasts a bright golden yellow colour that heralds a deep bouquet of exotic fruit with intense notes of mango and pineapple, enhanced by delicate vanilla nuances. On the palate, it is dry, savoury and full-bodied, with a rounded and harmonious structure that leads to a long and persistent finish, perfectly balancing the vibrancy of the fruit with a pleasant softness.

Where it comes from

The grapes grow in the fertile plain between Leverano and Salice Salentino, caressed by the breeze from the Ionian Sea. The area boasts alluvial soils of medium texture, with calcareous veins and stretches of red earth rich in iron oxides. The southern sun defines a warm and windy climate, tempered by cool summer nights that ensure an ideal temperature range. This natural rhythm is fundamental, as it preserves a lively acidity and locks in the aromatic components, giving the wine a pronounced gustatory tension.

How it is produced

The process begins with a careful manual selection of the bunches, followed by cooling and gentle crushing. Pressing in an inert atmosphere protects the must from oxidation, preserving the primary integrity of the aromas. The uniqueness of this wine lies in its fermentation in barrels, an oenological choice complemented by the bâtonnage technique. The periodic stirring of the lees imparts greater tactile and gustatory complexity. A meticulous final ageing completes the process, resulting in a white wine with a clear profile that enhances the natural savouriness of the Salento region.

It was around 1500 when the noble Neapolitan family of Conti Zecca decided to move to Puglia, and more precisely in the lands of Leven, in the heart of Salento, intensive farming and to start their own companies. Over the centuries the family tradition of production evolved further in 1935 and the Count Mint Alcibiades, with entrepreneurship and courage, he decided to make wine from the grapes in their own lands: thus was born the cellar of Leven, a modern and efficient structure that made centers of this country one of the most commercially significant of Salento and Apulia. After World War II, his son, Count Joseph, introduced new methods of management of the vineyard and expanded the chain, also introducing the filling.

From far away in 1500, then, the tradition of dedication to the vineyards of the Mint family has never stopped. Today the heirs, accounts Alcibiades, Francis, Luciano and Mario Zecca, dedicated with passion to run the family business, along with meticulous care of the entire control of its production, soil and climate of the environment on the choice of grape varieties and clones most suitable plant the vineyard, the choice of agricultural techniques and the most appropriate time of harvest to bottling the finished product, to produce high quality wines.
