Description

What kind of wine it is

Champagne Coessens Champagne Largillier Blanc de Noirs Brut is a Blanc de Noirs made from Pinot Noir grapes using the Traditional Method. On the nose, it reveals a floral bouquet of magnolia and bindweed, enriched by fragrant notes of whitecurrant. The mineral character is immediately apparent, marked by a pronounced chalky note. On the palate, the effervescence is subtle and well integrated, with an extremely fine mousse that caresses the taste buds with great delicacy. The body is light, supported by vibrant freshness that enhances a clear mineral tension, finishing with remarkable cleanliness.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from Ville-sur-Arce, a region where Champagne acquires a distinct geographical identity. The local soil boasts a strong chalky composition, a natural element that is directly transferred to the glass, ensuring a vertical sip. The vineyards have been tended by the family for five generations, an agricultural heritage that found new expression when Coessens established their own winery. This deep viticultural expertise results in a limited production, aimed at transparently and faithfully reflecting the authenticity of its place of origin.

How it is produced

After a selective harvest, the must ferments in steel tanks, undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures for a long time on fine lees to enrich the flavour profile. The dosage is kept to a minimum to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Served at a temperature between 6 and 8°C, it proves to be an ideal aperitif wine and pairs excellently with foie gras, seared scallops and white meats in sauce. Its pronounced organoleptic purity also perfectly accompanies shellfish and refined cheeses.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 2006 to enhance a precious terroir, the maison Champagne Coessens has its roots in the vineyards of Ville-sur-Arce, cultivated by the family for five generations. The cuvée Largillier Blanc de Noirs Brut (92 pts. James Suckling) is vinified exclusively in steel. Thanks to meticulous ageing on fine lees, malolactic fermentation and a very low dosage, this exclusive production of around 8,000 bottles a year offers the palate a refined, mineral and extraordinarily elegant sip.

From this winery
My family has owned vineyards in Ville-sur-Arce for 5 generations so it was quite natural that I should take over the family business. In 2006 I decided to start my own champagne house : Champagne Coessens.

After 7 years working as vineyard manager for a large champagne house, creating my own range of champagnes was the realisation and embodiment of one of my profound aspirations.
